About This Blog

Greetings in the Name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  Never having done a blog before, I am begging this first blog to post our weekly sermons from St. Paul's for members who miss a week, and for anyone else who God leads to read them.  As we are in the midst of a Revelation sermon series that began on the first Sunday in January, I am going to go back and post from that point forward.  If you have questions about the approach I am taking with Revelation, don't start in the middle, go back to the beginning.

Spiritual Warfare: The Armor of God: The Sword of the Spirit - John 1:1, 14; 3:16-17

Excalibur…when I think of famous swords, Excalibur is one of three that immediately come to mind.  How many of you know of the legend of Excalibur?  It was the sword, sunk deep in a stone, that waited for the rightful king to draw it forth.  One of the others I think of is Sting.  Anyone know where to find Sting?  It is an Elven blade found in J. R. R. Tolkien’s Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings wielded first by Bilbo and then by Frodo. We are engaged in battle with the enemy.  Yet our conflict is not with those who look, speak, think, or even believe differently that we do.  Our enemies are not of flesh and blood, as Paul has told us over these last two months, our enemy is the ruler of the spiritual forces of evil and wickedness.  We are, my friends, engaged in spiritual warfare.  There is no doubt to those that follow Christ that we are constantly in the midst of conflict…a conflict we may experience in this world, but that is ongoi...

Women of Faith: Lydia - Acts 16:11-15

“This. Changes. Everything.”   As I began reflecting on the intersection of our Women of Faith series and Pentecost Sunday that quote kept ringing through my head.   Exactly why that came to mind I will have to attribute to the Spirit because it is not a Scriptural quote…nor is words of some famous woman of the faith.   It is actually a quote from one of Joshua’s television shows, “How to Train Your Dragon: Race to the Edge.”   The more I thought about it, though, the more appropriate I thought those words were for today.   Why?   Because Pentecost was a day that changed everything. Jesus had been resurrected.   He had ascended to Heaven.   The disciples, on the other hand, remained in Jerusalem.   In many ways they were at a loss as to what to do next.   Jesus had told them to go back into Jerusalem and wait for God to empower them to take on local, national, and global missions, but they had no idea what to expect.   Each...
